SCIENCE FAIR CLASS

Overview

This class will go in depth into how to formulate, plan, research, do, and present a science fair project. A strong testable question and hypothesis will be formulated together, and each student will be guided in detail how to do their experiment and collect data properly. At the end of the class a mock science fair will be simulated, with experienced students and mentors judging students, purely to provide constructive feedback on how to improve and compete on a greater scale.

Class Information:

The rules and format of science fair will be explained, with a specific focus on the Palm Beach Regional Science and Engineering Fair Rulebook. Examples of science fair projects will be provided to guide students.

A research question that is testable will be formulated, and a prelimary draft of each students procedures will be made during class. A handout will be provided on how to refine procedures so the student can actually do them.

Experimentation will have begun by the time this class begins, and this class will be to address any questions regarding experimentation. Students will also be taught how to take data and samples and record them properly.

During this class students will be taught how to research and focus on real-world implications for their project. Students will also be guided through data analysis and how to make a poster / slide presentation.

By this point all students will have their project and presentation completed, and a real science fair will be simulated online with experienced students and mentors judging each presentation and providing constructive feedback.
