GEOMETRY CLASS:
Overview:
This class will cover most of the important concepts, theorems, and formulas needed for competition geometry. Every new technique and topic will be reinforced with guided testing and interactive practice sessions, and advanced topics that are needed for geometry such as proof writing and logic will be covered. Everything learned in this class will be related to real world examples, as the ultimate goal of this class is to establish as strong of a conceptual understanding as possible.
Class information:
Classes : 9
Class duration : 1-1.5 hours
Class timings : TBD
Class format : Zoom meetings
Teacher: TBD
Class requirements : Basic understanding of some geometry, and must have either a notebook and pencil or notability on an ipad to participate in class discussion. Beginning and ending diagnostic tests will need to be submitted to the instructor to assess growth accurately.
Curriculum:
Review of basic geometric concepts, establishment of curriculum.
Most important facts, formulas, and theorems regarding triangles, and several guided competition practice problems, sourced from AMC / Mu Alpha Theta. Real world examples will be given to establish a strong conceptual understanding of any math problems that come up in the future.
Most important facts, formulas, and theorems regarding quadrilaterals, and several guided competition practice problems, sourced from AMC / Mu Alpha Theta. Real world examples will be given to establish a strong conceptual understanding of any math problems that come up in the future.
Most important facts, formulas, and theorems regarding 3D Geometry, and several guided competition practice problems, sourced from AMC / Mu Alpha Theta. Real world examples will be given to establish a strong conceptual understanding of any math problems that come up in the future.
Most important facts, formulas, and theorems regarding circles, and several guided competition practice problems, sourced from AMC / Mu Alpha Theta. Real world examples will be given to establish a strong conceptual understanding of any math problems that come up in the future.
Most important facts, formulas, and theorems regarding combinatorics in geometry, and several guided competition practice problems, sourced from AMC / Mu Alpha Theta. Real world examples will be given to establish a strong conceptual understanding of any math problems that come up in the future.
Most important facts, formulas, and theorems regarding various advanced geometric principles, and several guided competition practice problems, sourced from AMC / Mu Alpha Theta. These principles include, but are not limited to, trilinear coordinate geometry, and mass point geometry. Real world examples will be given to establish a strong conceptual understanding of any math problems that come up in the future.
An introduction will be made on how to write different geometric and logical proofs, including proofs by induction, deduction, and contradiction. Logic notation will also be covered, including truth tables and inverse/converse/… statements.
This class will be a wrap-up class where we will review all the topics covered in the previous 9 classes, and all the handouts will be provided here. A truncated timed test will also be taken to measure growth and test how much students learned.
